The National Coal Mining Museum in Yorkshire has launched an appeal to create a memorial garden, to commemorate the lives of those who lost their lives as a result of mining and mining-related disease.

A place for quiet contemplation and reflection, the garden will be at the museum’s Hope Pit at Caphouse Colliery, near Wakefield, and has come about in response to customer feedback.

The museum, which has 100,000 visitors annually, is calling for the local and mining communities to help create the garden and is also looking for donations.
