Minor Hotels reveals New York as the location for the launch of The Wolseley Hotels brand
Minor Hotels will open its first hotel under new brand, The Wolseley Hotels, in New York in 2027, with a wellbeing centre.
The brand is inspired by The Wolseley restaurant in London’s Piccadilly in the UK, which is renowned for its 1920s building and opulent interiors. The hallmarks of the brand will include culinary excellence, elegant design and gracious service.
The luxury hotel brand has been created to bring what Minor calls “British elegance and European prestige” to key cities around the world. Locations are planned across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East.
The Wolseley Hotel New York
In the centre of New York City, the inaugural hotel will occupy the building at 130 West 44th Street, which was originally constructed in 1905. The property is owned by New York-based investment and hospitality development company Ben-Joseph Group Holdings.
It will have 76 guest rooms in addition to the restaurant that will serve as the social centre for the hotel, The Wolseley New York. This venue will offer the grand café experience established by its London namesake with all-day dining and signature cocktails. There will also be a cellar-level speakeasy bar.
The hotel will also offer wellness experiences at a new wellbeing centre.
Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International, parent company of Minor Hotels, said: “The launch of The Wolseley Hotels marks an exciting new chapter for Minor Hotels. Inspired by the enduring success of The Wolseley in London, our vision is to create hotels anchored in culinary excellence, architectural character, and a genuine sense of occasion. The Wolseley Hotel New York establishes our first flagship and sets the standard for the brand’s global expansion.”
Aviv Laurence, CEO of owner Ben-Joseph Group Holdings, said: “Introducing The Wolseley restaurant and bar to the US through our New York flagship is a defining moment. Together with Minor Hotels, we are creating a destination that celebrates heritage, hospitality, and the enduring appeal of classic European luxury.”
The Wolseley brand was developed in London by founders Chris Corbin and Jeremy King, who opened the famous café-restaurant in 2003 and were also responsible for the Delaunay, Colbert, Fischer’s, Soutine, and Bellanger.
The pair lost control of the business in 2022 when minority shareholder, Minor International – that had provided a £35 million COVID loan – put the company into administration and subsequently bought it at auction.
Jeremy King launched Jeremy King Restaurants in 2023 and is building a new portfolio that currently includes The Park, Arlington and Simpsons in the Strand.
