Morecambe FC reveals new stadium name
Morecambe Football Club (MFC) has revealed that its new £12m stadium is to be called the Globe Arena after the club secured a five-year sponsorship deal with Globe Construction.
The 6,000-capacity venue is being built by the Warrington-based firm on a 5.3-hectare (13-acre) site in the Lancashire town's Westgate area. Plans will also include an outdoor multi-sports facility with FA-standard artificial training pitch. MFC chair Peter McGuigan said: "It is a historic day for both Morecambe Football Club and Globe Construction and the beginning of what we believe will be a very successful partnership between us."
The Globe Arena is set to be completed in time for the 2010-11 season, while the club has also confirmed that it will adopt a new crest based on its Shrimps nickname.
