New Indian cricket stadium makes international debut
A new cricket stadium in Rajkot, India is making its international debut today when it hosts a one-day match between India and England.
Spread over 29.48 acres, the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, which opened earlier this week, has a total seating capacity of 28,000.
The stadium houses three stands, South Pavilion, West Stand and East Stand featuring a health club, media box and president box.
A sports complex for other out-door as well as in-door sports is on offer as well as 18 hospitality corporate boxes in South Pavilion and 47 boxes in West Stand.
The complex has two playing fields, the main one inside the stadium, with a 90-yard outfield, and a smaller one outside, with a 70-yard outfield.
The stadium was built six feet higher than the ground level, to enhance the spectator's view of the entire ground.
Proposals for acquiring an adjoining 16-acre plot of government land is under active consideration.
