The developer working to deliver a proposed new stadium for Luton Town Football Club has signed an agreement with the landowner of the site.

Rosemound Developments, which is heading up the team to build a 22,000-seat stadium on the outskirts of Luton, has signed an agreement with Cliff Bassett, the owner of the 250-acre site at Old Park Farm, just south of Junction 12 of the M1 motorway.

The stadium development would require 30 acres and was given the green flag by Bassett last year on the basis of funding being secured.

A Rosemound spokesperson said: "We are delighted to be able to make this announcement. While we are aware that there will naturally be concerns regarding the development, we will be addressing these as best we can during the course of the consultation process.

"We believe that this agreement represents an excellent opportunity to create a positive development which will not only create an international standard football stadium for Luton Town, but will also bring hundreds of permanent jobs to the area and deliver significant community benefits."

The club will now launch a public consultation with a view to gaining planning permission. The Miller Partnership were appointed project architects in November.
