NGBs reaffirm TV revenues commitment
Leading national governing bodies (NGBs) for sport have reaffirmed a pledge to reinvest a "significant proportion" of television broadcasting revenue into the grassroots game.
The organisations currently adhere to the voluntary code of conduct that relates to television broadcasting rights, which is overseen by an independent monitoring committee. Under the current principles of the code, at least 30 per cent of net UK broadcasting revenue goes is invested by NGBs in the respective grassroots level of their sports.
NGBs also use "all reasonable endeavours" to ensure that high profile events are available in live or recorded form on free-to-air television. The monitoring committee has now confirmed that existing signatories to the code have met the terms of the agreement for the year ending 31 May 2011.
Sports Broadcast Monitoring Committee chair Charles Flint QC said: "Having examined the signatories' existing broadcasting contracts and their commitments to grassroots spending, the committee can confirm that the information received adheres to the code."
