National Lottery reveals award winners

By Pete Hayman    06 Sep 2010

Children's Able and Disabled Sport (CADS), Cheshire, has been revealed as one of the seven winning schemes of the National Lottery Awards 2010.

CADS picked up the Best Sport Project award, while Isle of Wight Railway Restoration and Beacon Hill Film Project were confirmed as winners in the heritage and arts categories respectively. A public vote helped decide the winner of each of the seven categories as part of the annual awards, which aim to recognise the role that Lottery-funded projects play in communities across the country.

CADS' Steve Harp said: "Lottery funding has been crucial in helping to both establish and expand our project, which is providing wonderful opportunities for local children to participate in a wide range of fully inclusive sporting activities, regardless of their ability." The winners were announced as part of a special ceremony screened live on BBC television on 4 September.

Winning schemes for the National Lottery Awards 2010 include: CADS (Best Sport), Isle of Wight Railway Restoration (Best Heritage), Beacon Hill Film Project (Best Arts) and Bumblebee Conservation Trust (Best Environment). HMS Cavalier (Best Education), Access to Citizenship (Best Health) and Little Haven's Children's Hospice (Best Voluntary/Charity) were also named winners.
