New Orkney pool to open this month
A new pool is set to open to the public on 22 June on the island of Orkney.
The new Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwell will include a six lane, 25-metre pool, fitted with a moveable floor as well as a teaching pool, toddler pool, sauna/steamroom, three squash courts and changing/spectating areas.
"The pool and the other new additions, really are superb facilities, which will serve the community well for many years to come," said Council convener Steven Heddle. "The project has had a lengthy delay which has been disappointing for the Council and for the public - the fact remains it's an impressive addition to Orkney that's worth waiting for."
The centre was originally supposed to open in November but was delayed due the replacement of a small area of mosaic tiling in the smaller leisure pool.
The new facilities come as part of Orkney Islands Council's £57m Schools Investment Programme.
