New aquatic centre planned for Kapiti Coast
A new NZD16.9m (£8.4m, EUR9.7m, US$13.4m) aquatic complex is scheduled to open in Paraparaumu town centre on the Kapiti Coast, New Zealand, by the end of next year.
It is hoped that work will begin later this month, with the costs and fundraising status to be reviewed by Kapiti Coast District Council on 17 November before a contract is awarded.
The local authority committed NZ$12.6m (£6.3m, EUR7.3m, US$10m) towards the asc architects-designed project, with the Kapiti Aquatic Centre Trust responsible for securing the remainder of the funding.
Facilities at the venue, which is to be called Coastlands Aquatic Centre under a 10-year deal with Coastlands Shoppingtown, will include a 25m multi-use pool with moveable floor.
A 10m x 8m toddlers pool; a 15m x 8m learners pool; and a hydroslide and tower; are to be included in the first phase of the scheme, along with a sauna and spa pool.
Meanwhile, it is hoped that a second stage will include a 50m pool with moveable bulkhead; a hydrotherapy pool; and a second hydroslide if further funding can be secured.
