New 'chocolate attraction' opens in York
A new 6,400sq ft (595sq m) visitor attraction has opened in York, UK, to explore the history of confectionery and the city's historical links with the chocolate-making industry.
Chocolate-York's Sweet Story is operated by Continuum and occupies three floors of the former Alison Homes Déco building, which is owned by developer Oakgate Group.
An interactive journey that has been designed by MET Studio transports guests from Mayan and Aztec times through to York's modern day confectionery industry, which continues to thrive.
Interpretative techniques have also brought to life the memories of families that were involved in York's chocolate industry and founded companies like Rowntree's, Craven's and Terry's.
Chocolate-York's Sweet Story chief executive Juliana Delaney said: "The Aztec tradition was very much about ensuring prosperity for the year ahead, so, in many ways it was the perfect way to launch Chocolate-York's Sweet Story and to celebrate an industry that has contributed so much to the city and the UK's cultural love of chocolate and confectionery."
