New equipment for Western Isles centres
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar - the Western Isles Council has completed work on the installation of new fitness equipment at two leisure centres on the Outer Hebrides, Scotland.
Technogym has supplied the new machines at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais, Stornoway, and the Lionacleit Sports Centre, Benbecula. The scheme has been funded by NHS nan Eilean Siar - Western Isles. A new strength and conditioning area has also helped to increase the capacity of Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais by 30 per cent as part of the project, which aims to encourage more local residents to use the gym.
Gordon Jamieson, chief executive of NHS nan Eilean Siar - Western Isles, said: "There is a clear link between increased physical activity and the reduction in the incidence of heart disease, hypertension and diabetes. The significant benefits in terms of mental health are also well documented. "The investment in these facilities will increase the capacity of the sports centres and allow them to continue to widen access to both the public and patients."
