A new £420,000 grassroots football facility is to be developed in the South Devon village of Bishopsteignton, which is to benefit local clubs across the Teignbridge and Shaldon area.

Due for completion in summer 2012, the Michaels Field project near Teignmouth will boast a new pavilion with changing rooms and junior and senior grass pitches.

The Football Foundation has provided £220,000, while Teignbridge District Council (TDC); Devon County Football Association; and local clubs will provide the remaining £200,000.

TDC executive member for communities, recreation and leisure George Gribble said: "This facility will mean the survival of local clubs that provide an invaluable service keeping people fit and healthy."
