New golf complex for Scotland
A former coal mine site at Whitburn, currently derelict land with large coal waste heaps, is the focus of a new development which will feature a 36-hole golf complex.
Ecosse Regeneration has commissioned PGA Design Consulting to design the complex – midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow – as part of a 520-hectare project including hotels, housing, a business park and leisure and educational facilities.
The waste heaps are being reclaimed as part of a 28m cubic metre earthworks contract and it is anticipated that the earthworks on the golf course alone will take about two and a half years before golf construction can start.
One of the courses will be a moorland course with few trees, whilst the other – as part of a reforestation programme – will be densely wooded. Between the two will be a clubhouse and country club for the benefit of visiting golfers and local residents alike. Details: PGA Design Consulting +44 (0)117 952 7585
