New leisure centre forms part of £50m Bristol plans
A total of £6m worth of funding has been earmarked for a new Bristol East swimming pool at Bristol Brunel Academy.
The funding forms part of Bristol City Council's £50m Investing in Bristol's Future package which has been created to help stimulate the city's economy and create new jobs.
Council Leader Barbara Janke said: "The capital package includes proposals for a new swimming pool for Bristol East which is a long overdue investment for this community."
It is understood that the council plans to source the £50m by borrowing the money from the central government's Public Works Loan Board.
Janke added: "We will raise this extra capital by borrowing sensibly at historically low interest, and fund the repayments through savings in our revenue budget - £1.5 million this year."
