New lottery game to help sports clubs
More than 130 sports governing bodies are set to benefit from a new live TV game being launched this autumn.
BingoLotto, which will show on Virgin 1, will donate 20 per cent of every Gamecard sold to good causes.
The Gamecards, which will cost £2, will go on sale across Tesco stores in September and viewers will need cards to take part in the interactive game.
The main beneficiaries from the game will be the Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR) and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, but a number of sports bodies will also receive support.
Charles Bartholomew, finance and operations director at UK Athletics, said: "This initiative will provide an additional funding stream that can support projects that might otherwise overlooked by the World Class Performance Programme."
Tim Lamb, CCPR chief executive, added: “It is CCPR’s role to protect, promote and provide for its members, their clubs and participants and BingoLotto proceeds have the potential to contribute to all three of our aims.
"The financial environment for clubs is still very tough and this new funding stream will hopefully give them a much-needed boost.”
The BingoLotto concept originates from Sweden, where the programme has raised close to £1bn to sports clubs and charities over the past 15 years.
