Industry research specialist Intelligent Spas is conducting a survey to determine what effect new US tariffs are having on spa operators and suppliers.

On 2 April, US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency to address the country's trade deficit and introduced a two-tier tariff system. The new tariffs, which include a universal 10 per cent import levy and steep country-specific duties, are reshaping global trade and hitting industry worldwide.

With key sectors such as the car and film already impacted, the spa and wellness industry now faces rising costs and uncertain supply chains. Many spas in the country rely on imported equipment, skincare products and wellness supplies and are now subject to these new tariffs. This threatens to squeeze margins, raise prices for consumers and disrupt service delivery.

Suppliers based outside the US but serving the market are also feeling the pressure, as the new tariffs complicate logistics, inflate export costs and require rapid adaptation to changing trade requirements.

As inflation dampens discretionary spending, spa operators may be forced to localise sourcing, streamline offerings and adapt business models to navigate growing economic and geopolitical turbulence.

To take a deeper look into how the spa industry is impacted, Intelligent Spas is asking operators, service providers and suppliers:

  • How tariffs have affected business and to what extent
  • What strategies have been implemented to mitigate their impact
  • What changes businesses have made to financial forecasts and employee numbers as a result

“After speaking with a variety of people across the spa industry recently, I’ve heard the tariffs are creating a lot of uncertainty," says Julie Garrow, managing director of Intelligent Spas. "I believe the collective results of this survey, particularly analysed by business type, location and selling region, will help many businesses to better navigate the change in market conditions.”

Garrow is calling for all stakeholders who are currently operating in the industry to take 3-4 minutes out of their day to share their insights.

Eligible participants who complete the survey will receive the final report free of charge.

Please click this link to begin the survey. The deadline to complete it is midnight on Wednesday 28 May.
