Newcastle United confirms £100m price

By Pete Hayman    09 Jun 2009

Newcastle United Football Club (NUFC) has confirmed that it is up for sale at an asking price of £100m, just a week after owner Mike Ashley revealed that he was seeking to offload the club.

Ashley, the sportswear millionaire, has admitted that his tenure as owner of the club had been "catastrophic for everybody" after it was relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2008-09 season. Keith Harris of stockbrokers Seymour Pierce has been appointed to oversee the sale of NUFC, which has now been put on the market for the second time in nine month, although at a reduced asking price.

Ashley acquired the Tyneside club for £134m in May 2007.
