Nine Scottish clubs share £250,000 Direct Club Investment
A skating club and a beach volleyball team are among the organisations to benefit from the latest round of Sportscotland’s Direct Club Investment (DCI) programme.
In total, nine Scottish sports clubs will share more than £250,000 worth of funding from the DCI, taking the total distributed through the fund since its introduction in 2013 to £3.89m.
It is estimated that the funding has leveraged nearly £5m of investment from the clubs involved – and a further £2.1m from partners across Scotland.
With the addition of the nine clubs in the latest round, the DCI has now supported a total of 162 projects.
Sports Minister Joe FitzPatrick said the nine clubs will use the funding to support their development plans – which range from basketball, cricket, cycling, football and gymnastics to swimming.
"DCI is targeted at supporting clubs who have a clear vision of how they can make a positive impact on their local communities by delivering more and better opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity," FitzPatrick said.
"We want to ensure that everyone, no matter what their background or ability, has the same opportunities to experience the benefits of regular physical activity and clubs and communities have a key role to play in our approach to getting Scotland active."
