Nottingham Forest has revealed plans for a new stadium that would hold 50,000 people.

The club is in talks with Wilson Bowden Developments to build the new stadium south of Clifton, an estate towards the southwest of the city, saying that it would be too expensive to revamp its existing City Ground home.

Mark Arthur, Forest’s chief executive, said: “All of our supporters know that we’ve looked at the possibility of rebuilding the main stand at the City Ground. But the reality is that we’d still be left with a stadium that was old and will always have huge challenges in terms of access.

“Now there’s an opportunity to go to a new, modern stadium that could seat up to 50,000 with excellent access and facilities. The stadium could help generate a dynamic and vibrant new community in Nottingham, with jobs, infrastructure and opportunity.”

However, the earliest the stadium would be completed is 2014, with Arthur saying that “not a penny of money that could go towards buying new players or strengthening the team will be spent on the new stadium”.
