Mansell Construction Services has been appointed to deliver new sports facilities at Eton Manor, London, which will host wheelchair tennis events at the 2012 Paralympics.

The Eton Manor project, which will occupy the former Lee Valley Eastway Sports Centre site to the north of the Olympic Park, is the last major 2012 venue contract to be awarded by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA). Before the venue is used to host wheelchair tennis events during the 2012 Paralympic Games, the Stanton Williams-designed Eton Manor will boast water training facilities for Olympic competitors.

Following the 2012 Games, the site will incorporate a new hockey centre with two competition pitches, permanent seating and space for temporary seating to be installed for major events. Five-a-side football pitches and a tennis centre boasting six outdoor courts and four indoor courts will also be included among facilities at Eton Manor as part of plans to leave a lasting sporting legacy.

Initial work is due to get underway on site in spring ahead of the start of the main construction process, which is scheduled to start in the summer. Two new land bridges will also be built to improve access. ODA chief executive David Higgins said: "The Eton Manor site is steeped in sporting history and our plans will help recapture this and regenerate the area with new facilities fit for the Games and generations to come."

Shaun Dawson, chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority - the body responsible for operating Eton Manor in legacy mode, added: "We are currently working on a sports development programme to ensure that in legacy Eton Manor will create a wide mix of sporting facilities for the local and regional community, schools, clubs and elite athletes."
