Olympic works start at Barking arena

By Pete Hayman    06 Apr 2011

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD) has announced the start of work to convert Barking's Mayesbrook Arena into an Olympic Games-time training venue.

Former decathlon gold medallist Daley Thompson helped launch the improvement scheme, which will see the arena capable of accommodating handball, soccer and athletics. Mayesbrook Arena will also offer a training venue for the Paralympic judo and wheelchair rugby events, and is one of three Games-time training venues in the borough.

Work is being carried out on behalf of the Ebbsfleet Community Sports Centre and is being part-funded by the Olympic Delivery Authority.
