German company SportGroup, owner of outdoor sports surfaces specialist Polytan, has acquired Australia-based synthetic sports pitch supplier Team Sports.

In a statement, Sport Group said the acquisition enhances its position in Australasia and is part of the group's strategy to become one of the fastest-growing global synthetic sports surface providers.

Frank Dittrich, CEO of SportGroup, said: “This synergy is a perfect match, allowing all companies to focus on excellence in service to the industry and their customers, as well as producing outstanding quality in synthetic sporting surfaces.

“This deal will encourage the global roll-out of the Polytan-Brand as quality leader.”

Team Sports will continue to operate from its Sydney headquarters, with the entire existing staff being kept on.
