All change at British Basketball Federation with Humby exit and Wainwright appointment

British Basketball chair Nick Humby is stepping down as chair of the British Basketball Federation (BBF) after less than a year in the role.

During a period of change for the newly-formed governing body, Humby will be replaced by Bill Mcinnes as interim chair.

A new interim CEO in the shape of Lisa Wainwright, the former Volleyball England chief executive, has also materialised.

Humby was appointed as chair in January to oversee the formation of the BBF after individual national teams in England, Wales and Scotland decided to compete under the Team GB banner permanently.

In May, the former Manchester United and Lawn Tennis Association executive unveiled the sport’s 12-year strategy – Transforming Basketball in Britain Together 2016-2028 – which set the ambitious target of making basketball the second-largest team game in Britain in terms of participation.

The blueprint set out six outcomes and 10 strategic aims, but Humby will not be at the helm to see it through.

Mcinnes said Humby had “set a firm foundation in place and we thank him for his time and vision”.

Wainwright’s first objective as interim chief executive is to secure funding for basketball.

“The BBF board, and in particular Nick, have worked hard to secure resources to bring in more people to support the delivery of the new strategy and support the teams to get them as best prepared as we can,” added Mcinnes.

“I am delighted we have secured Lisa in this interim role. Her leadership, experience and network will enable us to move the outcomes of the new strategy forwards at pace.”

Wainwright stood down from Volleyball England in September after eight years. She also held senior roles at Sport England and England Netball, as well as non-executive positions with the Amateur Swimming Association.
