Pop artist and interior designer collaborate to launch experiential hospitality brand SupaPop Space

Pop Artist Sean Danconia has collaborated with interior designer Henry Chebaane to create a new hospitality brand called SupaPop Space.

The newly formed venture will provide a platform for the duo to create, produce, develop and license characters and art into experiential concepts, hospitality spaces and retail products.

Danconia has worked as an artist and animator for Disney, Hello Kitty and Warner Brothers, among others, and his own work combines references to cult cinema and classic animation with a flamboyant pop-art aesthetic. Chebaane, meanwhile, has crafted unorthodox interior spaces for Marriott, Four Seasons and InterContinental Hotels – including a Baku restaurant inspired by oil and gold and a sci-fi themed Asian eatery in London.

Now the pair will share their design vision to conceive new individually branded properties that can be produced, developed and distributed with retailers, hoteliers, restaurateurs and entertainments studios worldwide.

Early concept art has already been produced for a new eatery called Electric Ultrafunk Afrobot Cafe (pictured), featuring new SupaPop characters called J.Soul 7 and Afrobot.

In a statement, Danconia and Chebaane stated their ambition to “shape the next generation of 21st century entertainment across broad consumer demographics, leveraged on a global scale”.

SupaPop Space was officially launched this week at the Licensing Expo 2016 in Las Vegas.

It has also been announced that Chebaane is joining Danconia as a partner in SupaPop Universe, a parent company operating across the media and leisure sectors.

The company’s media division SupaPop Studios has animation development deals in place with Rollman Entertainment and Manga Entertainment and is developing a range of anime-inspired toys with Alfred Kahn, who licenses the merchandise for brands such as Pokemon.

Speaking to CLAD in April, Chebaane said designers should not be afraid of “outside the box” thinking if they are to create livelier and more authentic hotels, bars, restaurants and leisure spaces.
