PortAventura celebrates tenth anniversary with free fall
PortAventura theme park, near Barcelona in the Spanish region of Catalonia, has revealed its new multi-million euro addition for 2005.
Hurakan Condor, the tallest free fall ride in Spain, will plunge visitors more than 300 ft (92m) and has a top speed of around 70 mph (115 kmph) .
The new ride was designed and built by Intamin and will be situated in Mexico, one of the park’s five themed areas.
2005 marks the parks tenth anniversary and is the first major addition since Universal Mediterrania – the holding company which owns the park – was taken over by Spanis bank La Caixa.
Universal, which sold its stake after merging with US-based media gant NBC last year, has agreed a licensing deal with the bank, which enables PortAventura to use Universal logos and characters in their marketing and merchandise.
