Preston North End pays off HMRC tax debt
Preston North End Football Club (PNEFC) has confirmed that a winding up order brought against it has been dismissed after the club paid £470,000 to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
In a statement to the London Stock Exchange, the Coca Cola Championship club said it had paid off its PAYE liability for April 2010, as well as liabilities arising in March 2010 that led to HMRC issuing the winding up order. However, PNEFC confirmed that HMRC is looking to take further action against the club after it failed to pay a £435,000 tax bill for May, which was due on 19 June.
Meanwhile, the club also announced that Maurice Lindsay has been appointed chair of the club to replace Derek Shaw, who has relinquished the position to help the club with its restructuring plans but will remain a director. Elsewhere, Histon Football Club (HFC) has revealed that chief executive officer Allen Soraff has resigned from his position, while former chair Tony Roach has also left the Blue Square Premier club.
A HFC spokesperson said: "Allen always had in mind that he would continue with the club until he was 65 and then review his position but with increased commitments and travel, he has decided to redress the balance in his life and spend more time with his family."
