Redcar vertical pier plans to be considered
Plans to construct an 80ft (24.4m) vertical pier on the seafront at Redcar, North Yorkshire, are to be considered by the local authority.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC) will decide the fate of the new attraction at a meeting on Wednesday (24 November). The scheme forms part of a wider bid to regenerate the town's seafront, which is to benefit from £75m of investment over the next couple of years.
RCBC cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism Sheelagh Clarke said: "The Vertical Pier is part of the plans for Redcar seafront designed to help attract more visitors to the town. Mark Hannon, cabinet member for economic development added: "This is the biggest investment in Redcar for more than 100 years and provides the opportunity to develop the town as a retail and visitor destination."
Plans have been drawn up by a team led by Harrogate-based landscape architects Smeeden Foreman. Seven Architecture, Arup and Davis Langdon are also involved with the scheme.
