Geothermal wellness destination, Sky Lagoon will debut with a seven-step Icelandic bathing experience in Reykjavik, set to launch in April 2021.

Designed by attractions and hospitality brand Pursuit, Sky Lagoon will be a multi-sensory oasis in the city, featuring cold pool and sauna experiences, plus a 70-metre (230 ft) ocean-side infinity-edge design.

The Ritual at Sky Lagoon bathing journey will begin with relaxation time in the warming geothermal lagoon facing Mount Keilir, followed by a refreshing dip in a cold plunge pool.

The next step will be five to 10 minutes of sauna bathing while taking in panoramic views of the North Atlantic. This is completed by a rebalancing walkthrough Sky Lagoon’s cold fog-mist space.

Sky Lagoon will then encourage guests to reinvigorate their bodies and apply its signature Sky Body Scrub, followed by a trip to the steamroom to maximise the scrub’s hydrating benefits.

As a finale, guests will be invited to shower off the scrub and return to the warm geothermal lagoon.

“The rejuvenating and transformative experience will enable guests to connect with mind, body and spirit through the radiant powers of geothermal waters,” said Dagny Petursdottir, Sky Lagoon GM.

When taken in sequence, the seven steps are claimed to lead to deep relaxation and wellbeing

“The restorative nature of wellness experiences such as Sky Lagoon will become much more meaningful as we begin to emerge from what has been an incredibly challenging year,” said David Barry, Pursuit president.

“The need to re-energise, relax and restore is integral to both our physical and mental wellbeing and we look forward to introducing guests to the Sky Lagoon experience next year.”

Pursuit also recently shared more design details, announcing that Sky Lagoon will embrace simple and natural elements and focus on a modern and minimal approach.

Layers of grey-blues, deep greens, whites and creams have been chosen to mirror the dramatic natural landscape, while the addition of textures like precious metals and wood will create an infusion of warmth.

“The Lagoon’s design elements, influenced by Icelandic culture, create a distinctive guest experience with traditional turf houses and a restorative spa-like ritual rooted in Icelandic tradition,” explained Dagny Petursdottir, Sky Lagoon GM.
