The home of Super League team Wakefield Trinity Wildcats has been put up for sale for £600,000 (US$867,650, €766,639).
Owner of the Belle Vue stadium, the Bank of Ireland, has instructed property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall to sell the site.
At the end of last season Wakefield flirted with leaving the ground – its home since 1895 – to move in with the nearby Dewsbury Rams, but agreed a five-year lease instead. According to the Yorkshire Post, the club may seek to buy the ground itself.
“I don’t think think £600,000 would potentially put us off too much,” said Wakefield chair Michael Carter.
“We’d like to own the ground ourselves or get the (supporter's) trust to own the ground and there has been talk over the last 24 hours over a supporter-owned ground.”
Wakefield had received approval from the council to build a 12,000-capacity stadium in Newmarket three years ago, but the project never came to fruition.
