The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) has appointed Leonie Bell to be its creative programmer for Scotland for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Bell, who will take up the position in September, is currently programme director at The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture, Design and the City, delivering a programme of exhibitions and events.

As creative programmer at SAC, Bell will be responsible for curating a programme of activities that will form part of Scotland's contribution towards the Cultural Olympiad, a four-year scheme to promote British culture ahead of the London Olympics in 2012.

The role will also involve forming a national programme of events, working with Culture and Sport Glasgow and the Scottish Government, to build on the 2012 programme ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Bell said: "It is a wonderful opportunity that will enable Scotland's diverse and dynamic artistic and creative communities to make a confident contribution to this unique and global event.
