SAQ leaps into schools
School Sports Coordinators (SSCs) in the Wear Valley region have been awarded funding for one of nine national Lifelong Exercise Activity Pilots (LEAP).
Co-ordinated by the Primary Care Trust (PCT), some 40 primary schools, five secondary schools and one special school will benefit from SAQ International training, workshops and equipment.
The programme aims to support teachers in the implementation of physical education to children of all ages with a wide range of abilities.
“A lack of suitably qualified teachers is making the government’s targets for National Curriculum Physical Education difficult to meet,” said SAQ International director, Angus Nicol.
“We equip teachers with the skills they need to create a fully inclusive environment, allowing them to work with all ability levels, improving participation and attendance as well as performance.”
The PCT has engaged Leeds University to monitor the implementation of the scheme and report the results. Details: +44 (0)1664 810101
