Continuum seeks planning permission for chocolate attraction
York-based cultural visitor attraction group, Continuum, is in discussions with the landlords of York House, Kings Square, York, as part of plans to create a new confectionary-themed visitor attraction in the city.
Oakgate Group is currently applying to York City Council for 'change of use' planning permission for the premises for use as a visitor attraction and associated uses including retail and café.
The 6,400sq ft space is spread across three floors and according to Continuum, the new attraction would "reflect the fascinating story of the city's trading and manufacturing past".
A spokesperson added: "The theme of the new attraction will present the story of the science and manufacturing of confectionery in the city.
"In short, a chocolate themed visitor attraction with the working title The Sweet History of York."
Juliana Delaney, chief executive of Continuum, added: "There is still along way to go. However, reports produced by the council call for additions to the tourism offer in the city and we hope to add value to the fantastic visitor experience the city already offers and give visitors a reason to come back.
"Indeed, already we have received support from the City Council, Science City York, several of the city's biggest companies, Visit York and Welcome to Yorkshire for the project. We very much look forward to being given the opportunity to deliver."
