Dubai Safari on track to replace the emirate’s zoo
The Government of Dubai has announced the first stage of a safari project to replace the emirate’s zoo is on track to be completed in the first quarter this year.
Located in Al Warqa 5 the Dhs150m (US$40.8, 31.4m euro, £27.1m) attraction will cover 400 hectares and include a safari, butterfly park, golf courses, entertainment and recreational areas.
Director general of the Dubai municipality Hussain Nassir Lootah said 80 per cent of the levelling, internal roads and parking works are complete.
The municipality hopes the safari – which will cover 60 hectares – will become the best centre for wildlife in the world, providing a range of habitats for different animals.
Lootah said details regarding upcoming stages would be announced as bids are finalised with contractors.
Animals will be moved from Dubai Zoo, which Lootah has previously described as “overcrowded”.
