Samsung targets preventative health with AI-powered Galaxy Watch

Prevention is the focus of the new Galaxy Watch / Samsung
Samsung has unveiled AI-powered health coaching features for Galaxy Watch
New tools include Running Coach, Vascular Load monitoring and Antioxidant Index tracking
The strategy reflects a shift from passive health monitoring towards personalised guidance
Wearables sector increasingly focused on behaviour change and preventative health

Samsung has unveiled a suite of AI-powered health features for its Galaxy Watch range, as the technology giant moves beyond activity tracking towards personalised health coaching.

The new capabilities, announced ahead of the launch of Samsung's next-generation wearable devices, include tools designed to provide users with more actionable insights into sleep, cardiovascular health and fitness, rather than simply reporting performance data.

Among the additions is a Running Coach feature that analyses performance and creates personalised training programmes. Samsung has also introduced Vascular Load monitoring, which aims to help users understand the impact of stress and lifestyle factors on cardiovascular health, and an Antioxidant Index that uses sensors to estimate carotenoid levels in the body.

The company says the updates form part of its wider ambition to position wearable devices as proactive health companions capable of supporting long-term wellbeing and disease prevention.

The move reflects a broader trend across the wearables sector, where technology companies are increasingly seeking to translate health data into personalised guidance and interventions.

While early generations of fitness wearables focused primarily on counting steps, monitoring heart rate and recording workouts, newer platforms are placing greater emphasis on coaching, behaviour change and preventative health.

Samsung said the new features are intended to help users develop healthier habits by providing practical recommendations and personalised insights.

The announcement comes amid growing competition in the health wearables market, where companies including Apple, Oura, WHOOP and Garmin are investing heavily in artificial intelligence and advanced health analytics.

For fitness operators, the development highlights the increasing convergence of consumer health technology and the wider wellness ecosystem. As wearable devices evolve from tracking tools into coaching platforms, opportunities are emerging for operators to integrate external health data with exercise programming, recovery services and preventative health offerings.

Samsung has not yet confirmed the full commercial rollout timetable for all the new features, although they are expected to be introduced alongside upcoming Galaxy Watch releases later this year.
