The 17th century Braemar Castle in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland, is set to become a visitor attraction.

Braemar Community – a commercial offshoot of the local community council – has signed a 50-year lease for the castle, which is located near Balmoral Estate.

The community is submitting funding applications for a £1.3m restoration project, which is expected to take a decade.

The castle’s family accommodation, including the dining room, drawing room and the Lairds room, as well as historical artefact displays and exhibitions will be open to the public as an educational resource and visitor attraction later this year.

Additional plans include the castle being used to host weddings, corporate events and concerts.
