Shay Stadium revamp gets green light
Plans for a revamp of Shay Stadium in Halifax, West Yorkshire, have been given the go-ahead by local councillors.
Proposals to complete the ground’s unfinished East Stand were approved by Calderdale Council’s Planning Committee and the council is now working with the Shay Stadium Trust to get the project underway.
The designs include a four-storey stand with a seated capacity of 3,500, as well as changing facilities, a supporters’ bar and café, a gymnasium, offices and banqueting suite.
David Kirton, the council’s portfolio holder for regeneration and development, said: “We are now a step closer to having a fully completed sports stadium in Calderdale that we can all be proud of.
“The benefits of this community stadium will be far reaching and will meet a number of council priorities relating to healthier children and young people.”
Work is due to begin in June and should be completed by the end of the year.
