£5.25m extreme sports facility to open
Dacorum Sports Trust (DST) has announced that a new £5.25m extreme sports complex - XC - is to open its doors to the public in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, on 23 July.
The majority of funding for the scheme (£5m) has been provided through the government's myplace programme, which is administered by the Big Lottery Fund. DST contributed the remaining £250,000 towards the XC, which features a Skate and BMX park with one of the only indoor concrete pool and bowl complexes in the UK.
Other facilities include a 60m x 14m (197ft x 46ft) climbing wall with four individuals areas for all abilities; a 206sq m (2,217sq ft) bouldering facility; and an indoor caving system. XC will also feature a high ropes obstacle course situated 12m (39ft) above the ground and a music recording studio. GB Building Solutions has built the new facility.
DST will operate the XC, with Sportspace working with Dacorum Borough Council and the Youth Connexions service - the latter of which will have a base in the new building. Picture courtesy of Nick Molnar Photography
