Edgbaston capacity increased for first day/night test in Britain
Edgbaston, the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, will have its capacity increased as it prepares to host the first day/night test match on British soil.
A temporary stand supplied by Arena Seating will see the ground’s capacity raised by 850 to see England take on the West Indies from Thursday 17 to Monday 21 August.
The stand will remain in place for the T20 Blast Finals Day, which is being hosted in the Birmingham-based venue on 2 September.
According to Gareth Roberts, commercial director at Warwickshire CCC, 55,000 tickets have already been sold for the five-day test, with day two sold out.
The temporary stand was also used when Edgbaston hosted recent ICC Champions Trophy matches.
“We are keen to maximise this opportunity for this first day/night test match and give even more supporters the chance to witness history,” said Roberts.
He added: “England will return to Birmingham on the back of six consecutive victories here, across all three formats of the game, and we hope they can continue their great run of form at Fortress Edgbaston in August.”
