Six Senses chooses Chinese brand name ahead of first resort launch

Six Senses Hotels Resorts and Spas has announced its Chinese brand name as being pronounced “Liu Shan” in Mandarin and “Luk Sin” in Cantonese. This name has been chosen ahead of the launch of the operator’s first Chinese property – Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain resort in 2015 – to ensure the brand resonates with the mainland China market.

The name Liu Shan/ Luk Sin is associated with tranquility, spirituality and relaxation – features which Six Senses says are integral to their operations.

“We selected a strong name that represents the brand well,” said vice president of marketing and communications, Julia Gajcak.

“We went to great efforts to find this name and it was important to show the true nature of our brand and to reflect the significance of our move into China. It's our first resort opening in a phenomenal location – where we fully respect and embrace the local cultural values, including the importance of the naming process.”

Set to open in May 2015, the Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain will feature a Six Senses Spa in addition to 113 guest accommodations in a village format, with courtyard suites, garden and pool villas. The resort will complement the UNESCO World Heritage & Natural Cultural site at nearby Dujiangyan. The region is also known as the homeland of the giant pandas and is where the first Chinese emperor built his capital around 2,400 years ago.

Last December, Six Senses announced rapid expansion plans through to 2016 with a number of properties set to open across the region.
