South Korea starts work on robot theme park
Work has started on a robot theme park in South Korea following a groundbreaking ceremony.
Construction was supposed to start in 2009, but plans were delayed and it seemed as though the park in Incheon would never become a reality.
That’s changed, however, with a breaking of ground ceremony signifying the start of construction on the W670.4bn (£388.8m, US$624.3m, €459.5m) robot theme park.
The 0.75sq km (0.29sq mile) attraction will have exhibitions and rides, in addition to a waterpark, shopping area, hotel and R&D centre.
Not only will the park function as an entertainment venue, but it will also be used to test new products and teach students with a post-grad robotics school and a robotics institute.
The project has been backed by the both central and local government as well as private developers. The public interest facilities are scheduled to open in 2015, while the park’s full opening will come in 2016.
