Sport Aberdeen embarks on £400k modernisation project
Sport Aberdeen has set aside £400,000 (US$572,410, €506,924) to modernise four sport and leisure centres in the city.
The investment plan will involve upgrade work to the Beach Leisure Centre, Alex Collie Sport Centre, Peterculter Sports Centre and Kincorth Sports Centre.
Operator Pulse Fitness is undertaking the modernisation work, which will be completed in two stages: the Beach Leisure Centre and Peterculter Sports Centre improvements will occur between 25 April and 9 May, while the two other centres will be worked on during 2-13 May.
Fred Dalgarno, Sport Aberdeen chair, said the modernisation was “critical in providing high-quality, value for money leisure facilities” on behalf of Aberdeen City Council.
“We look forward to unveiling the results, which will mean people have nae excuses when it comes to getting active in Aberdeen,” he added.
The move comes just a few months after the funding body was told it was going to have its 2016/17 budget cut by £405,000 (US$579.565, €513,261) as city councillors attempt to find £2.4m (US$3.4m, €3m) in savings.
Sport Aberdeen chief executive Alistair Robertson said the February announcement was “extremely disappointing”.
