Legoland Malaysia unveils RM6m Star Wars attraction
Legoland Malaysia has invested RM6m (US$1.8m, €1.4m, £1.1m) on a new Lego Star Wars attraction, which opened 15 September.
The 900sq m (9,687sq ft) Lego Star Wars Miniland launched on the theme park’s second anniversary and is the first of its kind in Asia.
Housed in an octagon-shaped building, the static model – made up of more than 2,000 lego models – features seven scenes from the six Star Wars films and The Clone Wars animated series.
Speaking at the launch, secretary general for the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in Malaysia, Datuk Dr Ong Hong Peng, said: “Since its opening two years ago, Legoland Malaysia has contributed significantly to Johor Bahru’s position as a tourist destination.
“The park has always been committed in supporting the National Key Economic Area Tourism Initiative and was a game changer under the strategic thrust of family fun.”
Legoland Malaysia master builder Stefan Bentivoglio also commented: “This is a massive project for us, as some of the models were shipped here from Germany and Czech Republic, while others were built at Legoland Malaysia.”
In conjunction with the opening of the new attraction, the park is offering free entry for children dressed as Star Wars characters until the end of September.
