Competition launched for new Budapest National Gallery and Ludwig Museum
Several high profile architects have been asked to compete in a newly launched competition to design the New National Gallery and Ludwig Museum in Budapest, Hungary.
A previous open competition for the project was recently abandoned, as the jury had "not found any entry suitable for implementation based on the assessment criteria".
The studios invited to compete consist of a star-studded line up, with Jean Nouvel, David Chipperfield, Mecanoo, Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, Renzo Piano, SANAA and Snøhetta all included.
In line with the decision to abandon the first competition, a two stage process has now been announced. The first stage asks for project submissions to include details of staffing, financial compliance and a demonstration of previous work in cultural buildings. A maximum of 10 entrants will proceed to the second stage where they will be required to produce scale drawings and clear energy concepts.
The National Gallery winner is set to be announced in April 2015, the winning practice will receive €65,000 (US$81,000, £51,000) in prize money. Second place with be given €35,000 (US$43,500, £27,300) and third prize will be awarded €25,000 (US$31,000, £19,500).
