Highly-anticipated travelling Marvel experience cancels remaining US tour dates
Marvel has abruptly cut short its US$30m (€27m, £19.2m) travelling theme park experience, cancelling dates in Illinois, New York and Missouri with no explanation as to why.
Announced in 2013, the 80,000sq ft (7,400sq m) facility – designed to look like a S.H.I.E.L.D mobile command centre – was set for multi-day runs in Chicago, New York and St Louis, but will now only fulfil dates in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which was the intended kick-off point for the travelling exhibition.
Los Angeles-based Hero Ventures produced the tour, which held previews in December in Phoenix, Arizona, before moving on in its preview format in January to Dallas and San Diego. A scheduled stop in San Francisco was postponed until Q1 2016 as the show underwent reformatting before reopening, later than planned, on 24 June.
The attraction encompasses seven colossal domes, a life-size Avengers Quinjet, the world’s only 360-degree, 3-D stereoscopic full-dome attraction and a 4-D motion ride. Featured are an array of interactive games and original animated short films associated with the Marvel brand. These include – amongst others – Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Thor, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Wolverine and The Avengers.
