Upcoming Dr Seuss museum celebrates life and work of famed author
The Amazing World of Dr Seuss, a museum dedicated to the life and works of the popular writer and animator Theodor Seuss Geisel, is opening on 2 June in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The museum’s five zones feature artwork, illustrations and interactive exhibits alongside memorabilia and furniture from Geisel’s home studio. Visitors can learn the background to famed works like The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and Oh, the Places You’ll Go!.
The US$7m (€6.5m, £5.7m) museum will be located in the grounds of the existing Dr Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden in Springfield – the town where Geisel was born and raised.
The sculpture garden opened in 2002 and attracts some 3 million visitors each year. Demand for an accompanying museum was high.
The 21,000sq ft (1,950sq m) three-storey attraction is managed by the Springfield Museums organisation and supported by private investors, the Dr Seuss Enterprises and the Dr Seuss Foundation.
There are plans to develop a second phase, with an outdoor Seussian Alphabet Maze.
