The number of public sports pitches in Scotland is still falling, with the loss of 32 pitches in the first quarter of 2007.

According to figures from Sportscotland, a total of 130 pitches have been lost since 1996, with schools being particularly affected.

Although 17 synthetic pitches were laid during this time, unfortunately it still isn’t enough to stem the decline.

Sportscotland has just awarded a £100,000 grant to Highland Council to create a grass pitch in the village of Acharacle, next to a new village primary school.

This follows a 10-year campaign by the local community, it will be used by schools and there are plans to create a senior team.
