Sportscotland launches strategies for Sport 21
Minister for tourism, culture and sport for Scotland, Frank McAveety, and Tom McCabe, the deputy minister for health and community care, teamed up in Edinburgh this week to launch the nine implementation strategies for Sport 21, Scotland’s 2003-2007 national strategy for sport.
The implementation strategies have been developed to deliver the 11 key targets as detailed in Sport 21, which was launched in March 2003.
The overall target of the national strategy is to increase adult participation in sport by 2020.
The targets are based on three main visions for Scotland – as a nation where sport is more widely available to all; where sporting talent is recognised and nurtured and where world class performances in sport are achieved and sustained.
The next step is a series of workshops, which will be organised over the next month to allow a discussion on the target strategies on a local level before they are finalised. Details: www.sportscotland.org.uk
