St Louis Art Museum's new extension to open
The St Louis Art Museum, in the US State of Missouri, has closed its doors until 29 June when it will reopen with a new East Building extension.
The building, designed by David Chipperfield Architects with technical assistance from St Louis-based HOK, will increase the museum's gallery and public space by 30 per cent and will house 21 new galleries.
The inaugural exhibitions in the East Building will feature 230 works from the permanent collection, 55 of which have not been viewed for at least 20 years.
Also included in the project are a new education centre and loading dock in the South Building as well as reinstalled galleries in the Main Building. The new building will also add more than 300 parking spaces to the museum and a new fully accessible entrance at Fine Arts Drive.
The museum will reopen after a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 29 June at 10am.
