Glasgow City Council has granted planning permission for Glasgow Rangers and casino operator Las Vegas Sands to build a regional supercasino at Ibrox.

The £200m entertainment complex would also feature a new hotel, leisure centre and a community centre, as well as additional housing.

Glasgow is one of several cities – others include Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff and Blackpool – vying to build the UK’s first supercasino, following the legislation changes brought in under the Gambling Act 2005.

Rangers chair, David Murray said: “This development will bring so much to the community around Ibrox. Our vision will put Glasgow and Ibrox on the map.”

The proposal will now be considered by the new Casino Advisory Panel.
