Good omens for record-breaking Banshee coaster
The longest inverted rollercoaster in the world is opening in the US on Friday. The $24m Banshee will be the main attraction when the 2014 season at Kings Island begins on 18 April. The theme park is located near Cincinnati, in Ohio, US.
Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard designed the 4,124ft long coaster, which can reach speeds of up to 68mph. Its seven inversions equals another inverted rollercoaster record.
Features of the Banshee - which takes its name from the mythical female spirit seen as an omen of death - include a 167ft lift hill, a 150ft curved first drop, a dive loop, a vertical loop encircling the lift hill, and a zero-G roll.
A total of three trains, each containing eight cars seating four visitors, will enable the Banshee coaster to accommodate approximately 1,650 people per hour.
